We have two or three dedicated operating rooms seven days a week 7:30 am until 9:00 pm for dedicated Orthopaedic Trauma procedures. We currently offer orthopaedic trauma surgery services throughout the Bay Area in San Francisco (UCSF and ZSFG), Berkeley, Marin, and San Jose (Regional Medical Center of San Jose). Vanderbilt Emergency We have eight prospective studies involving patients.  Vanderbilt faculty are also the PI on two of nine Department of Defense studies that have received $70 million to perform multicenter projects through a Trauma Consortium (METRC).  Orthopaedic trauma fellows are encouraged to participate in retrospective evaluations or work on projects with the short-term outcome to be completed and ready for publication by the end of their year. To Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship This one-year fellowship program is at a busy, urban, 900-bed Level 1 trauma center. The fellow has ample opportunity to assist with resident education, and completion of a research project is expected. The fellowship focuses on the management of trauma and poly-trauma patients with emphasis on fractures of the acetabulum, pelvis, and complex intrarticular injuries and post traumatic malunion and nonunion management. The University of Toronto Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship is a one year clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma designed to produce academic and clinical leaders in the field of orthopaedic trauma. The operating room support for Orthopaedic Trauma is unparalleled. We are making great strides towards developing a unique orthopaedic trauma fellowship. The trauma fellow is a front line member of the patient care team and gains clinical and surgical competence in the management of complex orthopaedic trauma problems. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is located within Medical Center East, which is directly adjacent to the Vanderbilt Hospital. Trauma fellows evaluate patients on whom they have operated  on a daily basis helping to direct their plan and daily care with the remainder of the orthopaedic trauma team. The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma performs approximately 2400 cases annually, and is growing at 10% per year. There are currently 5 helicopters, which provide transportation from hospital to hospital as well as from accident scene to Vanderbilt. Often, these “cases” consist of multiple fracture fixations.
